Bill's Bio

Being a homeowner and property owner in the unincorporated portion of the township has made me become interested in how our property taxes are being used.
I have spent the majority of my life living and working in Franklin Township.
Before graduating from Miami University I played Basketball for Miami University – Middletown (M.U.M.) from 1975 – 1978 and was a recipient of the Lynn Darbyshire Warrior Award and received the Leadership Service Award (Highest Award given to a Student at M.U.M.) in 1977.
During my college years at M.U.M. I served on the Student Advisory Council and served as Director of Intramurals and Recreation .
I graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor’s Degree 1979, and continued on with my education earning two Master’s degrees one in 1986 and the second in 1993.
I first moved to Franklin Township when I was hired to teach science in the Carlisle School District in 1979.
I taught Biology at Carlisle High School for 35 years before retiring in June 2014.
During my teaching career I coached Junior High Football and coached Basketball at the Junior High ( winning 2 SWBL championships) and at the High School.
I also sponsored the Carlisle High School Envirothon Teams finishing 1st and 3rd out of 130 teams in the Southwest Regional Competition in 1991. I was awarded the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation Districts “Conservation Teacher of the Year Award” in 1992.
As a teacher I was named to Who’s Who in America’s Teachers in 1994, received Warren County’s Project Excellence Teacher of the Year Award in 1997 and was awarded the Miami Valley Career Technology Center’s Honored Educator Award in 2008 and 2011.
Professionally I was nominated and served as District IX Director of SECO (Science Education Council of Ohio) 1993 – 1995 and was elected and served as High School Representative for the Carlisle Teacher’s Association (CTA) in 2012.
I have two children, Brad and Lauren Taggart – both graduates of Franklin High School and Miami University in Oxford. My son Brad and his wife Pam have blessed me with three wonderful grandchildren: Mason, Carter, and Riley
